The Role
Reporting to the EHS Operations Manager, The Process Safety Engineer, will collaborate with site-specific EHS teams, the Process Engineering teams and internal and external business partners to support risk minimizations based on hazard analyses in the Gigafactory Berlin Brandenburg (GFBB). The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, able to work independently, self-driven, and works well within cross-functional team environments. The ideal candidate also takes pride in his/her analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail. He/she appreciates a setting where superior work is encouraged, noticed, and rewarded. This position will be based in at the Tesla Gigafactory near Berlin, Germany.
- Partner with design, construction and manufacturing engineers to drive process safety improvements and compliance.
- Facilitate Risk Assessments, HAZOPs, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies and Safety Relief Reviews, incl. carry out risk assessment according the ASG and GefStoffV.
- Working closely together with all relevant departments to meet compliance on newly implemented ATEX relevant machinery.
- Perform process safety review/approval as part of the Management of Change (MOC) process. Participate in process safety audits and investigations.
- Review and approve Project Design Basis (PDB) with additional focus on deviations from Design Practices and Global Practices.
- Proficient in reading and understanding Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Collaborate with applicable Process Safety networks to maintain safety leadership and share best practices. Establish a process safety dashboard.
- University Degree - Applied Sciences graduate, Major: hazard prevention, fire protection, safety engineering or a comparable degree
- Ideally, you are trained as a hazardous material and explosion protection officer
- Good knowledge of German and English (at least level B2)
- Analytical thinking (quick grasp of technical, complex issues)
- Ability to work in a challenging and fast paced, collaborative environment and creatively problem-solve.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing EHS policies and programs across diverse teams.
- Very good communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, ability to build strong relationships.
