Your role:
For our preclinical safety group, we are looking for an engaged and enthusiastic PhD student (all genders) with a high ambition to implement new preclinical methodology to support our Animal Welfare Strategy and Culture of Care. As PhD Student in our preclinical In Vivo team in Darmstadt you will focus on refinement of rat housing, establishment of novel functional readouts and replacement with validation of digital control datasets to foster our 4R strategy. In close collaboration with internal and external partners you will design technical rat cage equipment and studies to collect, describe, analyze, interpret, and publish datasets (e.g., activity tracking and food consumption). In addition to the PhD thesis, you will have the possibility for a certified specialization in pharmacology and toxicology or laboratory animal science.

Who you are:
  • Master or equivalent in relevant life science (e.g., veterinarian, biologist, bioinformatics)
  • Strong interest in data analysis, preclinical drug development and welfare of laboratory animals
  • Innovative thinking and collaboration skills to develop novel techniques and deep understanding of biology, pharmacology, and medicine
  • Programming skills (R, Shiny or Python) are beneficial
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in German and English
