Summary
We are currently recruiting a Temporary Labourer for our Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection department. This job is for physically active people who get a great deal of satisfaction from doing the job right every time. Highly motivated, independent workers will enjoy the opportunity to work with small crews to accomplish big things and to support Aquatera’s culture of continuous improvement.
We have extended health benefits available for returning seasonal employees. There is also a possibility that the position could turn into full-time employment depending on staffing requirements.
Requirements
- Must be able to do physically strenuous work in all weather conditions
- Must possess and exhibit strong safety acumen
- Must be able to work independently and complete all assigned jobs
- Ability to operate all equipment in assigned area of responsibility
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to adjust operating conditions and recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment
- Smoking restrictions are in effect
- Must be a team player
- Safety footwear is required
- Mechanical inclination is an asset
- Travel to remote locations, including overnight travel, may be required
Responsibilities
- Excavation of water and wastewater infrastructure
- Line flushing
- Valve exercising and painting
- Operating equipment and working outside in various weather conditions
- Exposure to noise, fumes, dust, dirt, odours and chemicals
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- High School or equivalent education
- Graduate of, or currently enrolled, in NAIT Water/Wastewater Technician program is an asset
- Possession of Confined Space Entry, Standard First Aid, H2S, Fall Protection, and Ground Disturbance certificates (an asset)
- Skill in using a grease gun, wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, and other various hand and power tools
- Ability to use computers and electronic equipment
- Experience operating a backhoe and excavating around utilities is an asset
- Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations involved with the operation of equipment
- Knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulations, and Code
- Valid Canadian driver’s license, minimum of Class 5; Driver’s abstract satisfactory to the Employer and Criminal Records check satisfactory to the Employer will be a required as a condition of employment
A 5-year driver’s abstract and copy of valid driver’s license will be required should the candidate be invited for a second interview.
The following will be required as conditions of employment:
- Valid Canadian driver’s license, minimum class5
- Criminal Records Check satisfactory to the employer
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical fitness test
- Drug and alcohol test satisfactory to the employer
